Transferring large pictures over the Internet or posting them on websites and forums can take a long time. Reducing their resolution will decrease their size, but it will also affect their quality. With JPEGmini, you can reduce the size of your pictures by up to 5 times, without any significant impact on their original quality. The best part is that you don't have to make any kind of settings to perform this operation.

The application comes in Windows and Mac OS X versions and it is available in a Server edition as well. A free trial version is available, which does not expire, but it is limited to 20 photos per day. Installing JPEGmini does not take long, even on older machines. All you have to do is run the setup file and the installation wizard will download and install the application's components automatically.

JPEGmini's functionality is very straightforward and easy to understand. The user interface is compact and it has a modern and elegant design. All you have to do is browse for your photos or simply drag and drop the files over the interface and the application will do the rest. Once loaded, the pictures will be processed right away, without any further user input.

While reducing the size of your pictures, the application will display them one over another, as if you were sifting through actual photos. A few statistics will be displayed, when the process is complete, like the amount of saved disk space, after the current process, the total amount, since the first process and how much the pictures were reduced by. If you wish to process another batch of photos, you can load them the same way, over the previous ones, without resetting anything.

When processing images, the application will overwrite the original files by default. Of course, you will receive a warning when you load them. If you don't want to overwrite your pictures, you can specify an output folder in the general settings panel, where you can also set JPEGmini to reduce the resolution to certain values or specify a maximum height or width.

Pros

You can reduce the size of your pictures without affecting their quality. You only need to load one or more images and the application will start processing them right away. It is also possible to reduce the resolution of the pictures, to save even more disk space.

Cons

The application does not support other graphical formats besides JPG. Thanks to JPEGmini, pictures can take up less disk space, while maintaining their high quality.
